Bishop Harding Smith, a pastor at the Spiritual Church of God in Robbinsdale and founder of the violence intervention group Minnesota Acts Now, has been charged with wage theft and theft by swindle for allegedly underpaying his employees. According to a case filed by Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, Smith failed to pay the wages required by his nonprofit’s contract with the county – withholding roughly $150,000 in payroll expenses.

Ladies and gentlemen, starch your engines – the Brooklyn Park Tater Daze Parade and Community Gathering is returning Saturday, May 31. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. near the intersection of Welcome and 101st avenues. The hour-long event will feature live music, dancing, emergency vehicles and plenty of floats. Dozens of community organizations are signed on to participate, as well as some Brooklyn Park elected officials and city staff members.
