As the legislative session nears its end, those advocating for the CAC highlighted its value as a regional asset and called on the legislature to invest. “This is going to be a facility for everybody, that is really helping to continue to tie us together in the northwest region,” Brooklyn Park Mayor Hollies Winston said.

After repeated revisions and multiple threats of repeal, the Brooklyn Center City Council has approved a new version of the Community Safety and Violence Prevention Commission. Although the police advisory body retains many of the core functions outlined in December, its ability to enact reform has been reduced in size and scope. The amended resolution passed 4-1 at the May 5 council meeting.
