Almost two thirds of Tennesseans voted for President Donald Trump in the November presidential election, the results of which were certified in December. However, over 60% of voters in Nashville, Tennessee, cast their ballots for Vice President Kamala Harris. The Davidson County November ballot included candidates for president, U.S. senator, districts 5, 6 and 7 U.S. House representatives, as well as state-level senators and representatives.

Devron Burks and Sam Schulman, expelled students formerly of the classes of 2024 and 2026, respectively, were arrested during the sit-in protest inside Kirkland Hall earlier this year. 11 minutes ago Devron Burks and Sam Schulman pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault charges in Davidson County General Sessions Court on Nov. 20. They were sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation.

The Hustler sat down with Chancellor Daniel Diermeier for our last debrief of 2024. He discussed retaining diversity in the admissions process after the Supreme Court banned affirmative action and reflected on the past three semesters of Dialogue Vanderbilt programming and speakers brought to campus. He also spoke about construction on campus, the expansion of campus in Nashville and around the country and graduate student unionization.

The College of Arts and Science’s College Scholars Honors Program will be phased out starting next fall. Students currently enrolled will be able to complete the program, but no new applicants will be accepted. The College Scholars Honors Program has the stated goals of developing students’ critical thinking, creativity, curiosity and communication through taking honors seminars and performing independent research.

Students reported receiving racist texts targeting Black students from unknown numbers throughout the day on Nov. 8. Texts included language saying the recipients had been “selected as a slave” or “selected to pick cotton” and gave instructions on where to get picked up in a van by “executive slaves.” Not all texts received were identical, but all contained variations of a similar message, with some including the recipients’ names.
