PISTON, LTFRB still split on vehicle modernization program

MANILA - Despite the two-hour meeting between PISTON and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Thursday afternoon, the transport strike will continue Friday. Transport group PISTON started a two-day protest in Metro Manila Thursday, calling for the extension or scrapping of the consolidation provision under the Public Vehicle Modernization Program. Some members of PISTON were invited inside the LTFRB headquarters to discuss their demands with officials.

MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) expressed confidence in their readiness for the two-day transport strike set to begin tomorrow, Thursday, until Friday. MMDA says they are basing their strategy on recently-mounted transport strikes and transport members who signified their intent to join and those who did not. "Kung pagbabasehan yung nakaraan, CAMANAVA area tinamaan and Paranaque. So yun pa rin ang tutukan natin," said MMDA Chairman Don Artes.
LTO suspends license of driver who impersonated cop

MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the license of an SUV driver who allegedly impersonated a police officer and confronted a truck driver on C5 Road. The incident, which was captured on video and has since gone viral, showed the SUV driver stopping in the middle of the road to confront the truck driver. The SUV driver was seen aggressively demanding the truck driver's license, accusing him of reckless driving and obstruction of traffic.
Gasoline up, diesel down next week: DOE oil monitor

MANILA - The Department of Energy said on Friday that based on the four-day trading, gasoline prices are expected to increase by P0.25 to P0.45 per liter, while diesel prices are expected to fall by P0.20 to P0.40 per liter. Kerosene prices, on the other hand, are projected to remain stable or see a slight increase of P0.10 per liter on Dec. 5.

MANILA — The Metro Manila Development Authority on Thursday morning apprehended around 60 motorists and towed 9 vehicles for obstructing Mabuhay Lanes, as the agency ramped up preparations for the anticipated Christmas holiday rush. Motorcycles accounted for majority of the apprehensions. Other apprehended vehicles included a DSWD delivery truck for disaster relief, a couple of armored vans, a diplomat’s car, and an ambulance parked on the sidewalk in front of a hospital.

MANILA - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is taking steps to strengthen the motor vehicle inspection systems in preparation for the government's plan to modernize public utility vehicles next year. As part of the government’s modernization plan, vehicles will be required to undergo and pass a roadworthiness test at motor vehicle testing centers in order to be registered or renew their registration with the LTO.

MANILA - The Land Transportation Office on Monday said it discovered that more than half or 60 percent of the total number of vehicles nationwide are unregistered. Only 14 million out of the 38 million vehicles nationwide are registered, LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza said. The agency estimates that one of the possible reasons for the large number of unregistered vehicles could be the movement restrictions during the height of the pandemic.

A three-day nationwide transport strike kicked off on Monday, November 20, with some routes in Metro Manila showing signs of reduced volume of public utility vehicles.
