Women’s water polo team at Bakersfield College

December 11, 2024 The Bakersfield College Athletics Department is excited to announce that they will be adding a new sport this Fall 2025. The creation of a women’s water polo team at Bakersfield College is due to the increase in the number of Bakersfield high school athletes participating in the sport. The college has been closely monitoring the Kern High School District and recognizes the demand for opportunities at the collegiate level.

Bakersfield College (BC) and The Lavender program hosted a Friendsgiving event on Nov. 13. The Lavender program offered at (BC) helps the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning (LGBTQ+) community feel safe and thus makes them comfortable on their respective campuses. Also, provide and help with different resources to make the campus safer in this case BC.

Farmer’s Market comes to BC

Bakersfield College holds Farmer’s Market events to distribute free fruits and vegetables to students and Kern County members to help with groceries within the community on Oct 14. You can find the farmer’s market near the Outdoor Theater beginning at 10 a.m. It is held every second Tuesday of every month BC hosts a Farmers Market for its students and surrounding areas. The farmers market started at 10 in the morning, all items are free and provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

October 2, 2024 In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, Bakersfield College held a piñata decorating event on Sept. 30. This event was full of colors and creativity, with participants doing everything from crafting flowers to someone who took the initiative to make a piñata for BC. Students used their imagination and started creating their piñatas, while others were inspired with the help of Pinterest to create a pretty piñata.
Bakersfield ties Fresno in the game

The Bakersfield College men’s soccer team played a thrilling game against Fresno that ended in a 2-2 draw on a hot, dry afternoon on September 20. The game started and for almost half an hour we didn’t have the chance to see either team score a goal. In the 36th minute, Roberto Marquez (17) arrived and scored the first goal of the match, also the first goal in favor of the visitors. In the first half there were attacks but only Fresno was able to score a goal.

The Bakersfield College women’s soccer team suffered a tough loss in their home game against Ventura College by a score of 5-1 amid a hot and dry afternoon on Sept. 20. The game started very promising for Bakersfield College, as with just 5th minutes of play, Melody Christian (11) arrived and scored the first goal in favor of the Renegades. Two minutes later Valeria Lopez (5) would arrive and score the first goal in favor of Ventura, now the score was 1-1.
