GROVE, Ok. — A new campaign is helping to bring out of town visitors to local businesses this summer in Northeast Oklahoma. The Grove Area Chamber of Commerce launched its new Grand Lake Adventure Passport, a way for visitors to shop and stop at different locations across the area. This includes local businesses, restaurants, antique malls and cafes in Grove, Fairland, Afton and Eucha. For every shopping stop made, your name will be entered into a cash drawing of up to 500-dollar increments.

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — A controversial Jasper County neighborhood may be a step closer to dealing with deteriorating roads. The Jasper County Commission Tuesday voted to accept the streets that make up the Hickory Hills neighborhood just northwest of Joplin. Complaints detailing a host of road issues there left unfixed helped push forward a recent effort to disband the Joplin Special Road District, which is in charge of that general area.

The annual ceremony at the Jasper County courthouse highlighted the sacrifice of 28 deputies and police officers. Former Joplin police chief and current state representative Lane Roberts was the featured speaker – emphasizing not only the sacrifice of those who gave their lives but also the loss for everyone who knew them.
