GROVE, Ok. — A new campaign is helping to bring out of town visitors to local businesses this summer in Northeast Oklahoma. The Grove Area Chamber of Commerce launched its new Grand Lake Adventure Passport, a way for visitors to shop and stop at different locations across the area. This includes local businesses, restaurants, antique malls and cafes in Grove, Fairland, Afton and Eucha. For every shopping stop made, your name will be entered into a cash drawing of up to 500-dollar increments.

PINEVILLE, Mo. — Seven days after heavy rain, the water is booming at Big Elk Floats Camping and Lodge in Pineville. Just last weekend, Big Elk was forced to send campers and floaters away and shut down the campground because of the possibility of severe flooding. Memorial Day weekend started out cool and cloudy, but once it warmed up, campers took advantage of the weather, catching fish, swimming, and playing basketball and volleyball.

MCDONALD CO., Mo. — One McDonald County road is closing as part of a bridge construction project. Starting Monday, Slinkard Road just off of Missouri Route 90, east of Jane will close to traffic so contractor crews can install pipe and base rock. MoDOT expects the road to be closed from Monday June 2 to Wednesday June 4. While work is being done, drivers will be directed along a signed detour of McDonald County Route K, Business 71, County Route H and I-49.

The Missouri Department of Conservation’s “Little Acorns” program introduced them to the creatures living in Missouri’s caves. Each month, the Little Acorns learn something new at the Shoal Creek Conservation Education Center, covering different topics associated with our local environment. Naturalists say this can help spark a life-long love for the environment.

PINEVILLE, Mo. — The McDonald County Historical Society Museum in Pineville celebrated its grand re-opening with a ribbon-cutting this morning. The public got a look at some big changes for the 2025 season. A new, $200,000 elevator was installed over the December to May off-season, opening up the second-floor courtroom and classroom to visitors who aren’t able to use the stairs. Historical Society members tell us it’s a game changer.
