LAFAYETTE — Sophomore Dayzja Williams came through in the clutch Thursday night, lifting Louisiana to a dramatic 2-1 extra-inning win over South Alabama in the series opener at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park. With two runners on in the bottom of the eighth and the game knotted tied, Williams, a native of Alexandria, delivered a walk-off single to secure the victory for the Ragin’ Cajuns. “It was a good feeling,” Williams said. “I feel like we needed this to keep the momentum going.

LAFAYETTE — As Sun Belt Conference play reaches its midpoint, both Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball and softball teams are battling to climb the league standings and finish the regular season on a high note. On the softball diamond, head coach Alyson Habetz’s squad is coming off a tough weekend series loss to James Madison, dropping two of three games — both by just one run. The defeats add to a growing trend, with six of Louisiana’s nine Sun Belt losses coming by a single run.

LAFAYETTE — Louisiana baseball dropped its Tuesday night game, falling 9-7 to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field. It was the first meeting between the two programs in 20 years, and the Vaqueros wasted no time making an impact, scoring three runs in the first inning and building a 5-1 lead by the middle of the third. The Cajuns, however, responded quickly.

LAFAYETTE — It was a pitcher’s duel in the Sun Belt Conference bout between Louisiana and Texas State, but one swing made all the difference. Sophomore pitcher Chase Morgan tossed seven shutout innings for the Ragin’ Cajuns, and junior Carson Hepworth delivered a go-ahead home run in the eighth to lift Louisiana to a 2-0 win over the Bobcats Friday night at Russo Park. Morgan threw 102 pitches and struck out five while keeping Texas State off the scoreboard.
