Cicero, N.Y. — Section III’s boys outdoor track and field athletes flocked to Cicero-North Syracuse’s stadium for the state qualifier meet on Tuesday. The state qualifying meet was split into three classes this spring. The state championship meet will be held on June 13 and 14 at Middletown High School. Here are the top finishers from each class. Cicero-North Syracuse’s Antwan Maxwell Jr. was the 110 hurdles champ with a time of 15.37 seconds.

The Skaneateles boys tennis team took another step toward a state title on Tuesday with a narrow victory over Section II’s Glens Falls in the state regionals. The Lakers came away with a 3-2 win on their home courts to secure their spot in next week’s Division II state tournament. Skaneateles swept its singles matches in Tuesday’s regional bout. Freshman Noah Soderberg took first singles (6-3, 6-2) and senior Jake Salzhauer won second singles (6-1, 6-0).

Less than three days ago, Solvay softball players were filled with joy as they lifted their first Section III banner since a state title run in 2017. Now, that joy was replaced with the feeling of defeat after falling to Section IX’s Highland in the Class B state subregional on Tuesday at Queensbury High School just north of Glens Falls. The Bearcats fell behind by two runs in the first inning and were never able to recover en route to a 10-1 loss.

Syracuse, N.Y. — The Section III boys lacrosse playoffs have begun, leading to some movement in this week’s syracuse.com rankings. Wednesday has a full slate of quarterfinal and semifinal matchups on deck. In Class A, Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville meet in the semifinals for the second straight year. Last season, the Bees edged the Hornets en route to a championship bout berth. The Class C playoffs pit two familiar Tri-Valley League rivals against each other in the quarterfinals.
