    Cole Young hit a fielder’s choice in the 11th inning in his major league debut for his first RBI, giving the Seattle Mariners a 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night. Promoted from Triple-A Tacoma prior to the game, Young hit a dribbler up the first-base line off Cole Sands (3-2) to plate Miles Mastrobuoni. The throw from first baseman Ty France was not in time.

    Natisha Hiedeman made a 3-pointer with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift the undefeated Minnesota Lynx to a 74-71 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night. Hiedeman’s clutch shot gave Minnesota the lead for just the second time in the fourth quarter. After a timeout, Sami Whitcomb missed a 25-footer for Phoenix. Minnesota trailed 71-68 with a minute to go but Courtney Williams hit a 3-pointer to tie it with 53 seconds remaining.

    The Timberwolves bounced back in a big way in Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. After two blowout losses on the road in Oklahoma City, the Timberwolves rolled past the Thunder 143-101 in Game 3 Saturday night at Target Center. The Thunder still hold a 2-1 series lead going into Monday night’s Game 4 in Minneapolis, but the Wolves have some renewed confidence.

    MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Maikel Garcia hit a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning, and the Kansas City Royals avoided a series sweep by topping the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Sunday. Garcia drove a 0-2 pitch from Jhoan Duran (3-1) into left field, scoring automatic runner Nick Loftin. Michael Massey struck out swinging and Freddy Femin bounced to third before Garcia delivered. Carlos Estévez (2-0) retired each of his four batters — two by strikeouts — to get the win.
