DULUTH — With the chaos that surrounds the weekend of Grandma’s Marathon each year, it would be easy to overlook a summer basketball game at a local high school. Still, more than 300 people packed the stands Friday at Denfeld High School for the first Twin Ports Charity Basketball Game and raised more than $2,000 to support youth basketball, according to Denfeld boys basketball coach Phill Homere. In fact, the marathon was one of the reasons it all came together the way it did.

DULUTH — Walking down London Road Saturday morning, I started to ask myself, "Did I sign up for this half marathon or am I just walking this thing for no reason?"Really, I just decided to walk it, but not without reason. I had to work and my assignment was to try to gather photos and maybe come up with a story to go along with the photos I was taking. In the end, however, he went back to where it all seemed to start — for Garramone too — in 2021, when Marsolek was an eighth-grader for the Hilltoppers.

He was running it through the Notting Hill Foundation and he had raised 750 British pounds, or about $1,250, at that time. “I was spending all my time raising money,” he said.
