DULUTH — It was the top of the seventh inning Wednesday at Wade Stadium and Duluth Marshall senior Owen Marsolek had already pitched an excellent game against Esko. Esko’s only hit through the first six innings was the leadoff batter, Bobby Thornton. Marsolek had recorded 10 strikeouts and walked just one batter and the Hilltoppers led 3-0. An impressive performance any day, but especially against the fourth-ranked Class AA team in Minnesota.

HIBBING — The 2024-25 season didn’t start the way the boys from Hibbing/Chisholm had envisioned it. The Bluejackets were highly ranked and coming off an appearance in the 2024 Section 7A final. Instead of reeling off a long win streak to start the season, Hibbing/Chisholm stumbled. They started the season 7-4, with losses to Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, another top-ranked section contender, and Orono, a regular at the Class A state tournament.
