An Indian takeaway in Sleaford will become a full restaurant, despite claims that nearby residents are bombarded with smells. The entrance to La Shish on Northgate is just yards away from homes on Parry’s Court. A planning committee at North Kesteven District Council on Thursday (June 12) heard that residents also had to put up with noise, nuisance and even vomiting from customers.

A council chamber erupted in cheers after a passionate speech against a plant that would turn chicken waste into gas. More than 50 residents from the village of Anwick, near Sleaford, turned up for a planning meeting which became rowdy at times. The facility – built next to Moy Park poultry farm – would use anaerobic digestion to turn 120,000 tonnes of chicken poo and waste feedstock each year into a form of renewable gas.

More students with special needs will be able to stay in mainstream schools under plans being developed by Lincolnshire County Council. Four schools in Gainsborough are among 13 in Lincolnshire which are set to get dedicated facilities for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Special needs schools in the county are currently full and demand for this type of support is rising “exponentially”, the county council says.

Village life will be spoilt by a major solar farm if it goes ahead, residents claim. The One Earth Solar Farm would cover 3,954 acres near Dunham-on-Trent, across the Lincolnshire-Nottinghamshire border. Plans show a three-mile-long stretch of land on both sides of the River Trent, which would be covered with panels or battery storage containers.
