    Following a tight battle that ended in a 25-19, 25-23 loss to 5A North Oconee on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the MC Spikedogs tore through their next three opponents and set the stage for the central portion of their season. The North Oconee match drew key leadership from sophomore libero Camryn Scherer. Scherer tallied six digs defensively, and an impressive 17 to 1 serve receive percentage. Junior captain Quinn Butler backed Scherer up at the net, with 7 kills from the outside hitting position.

    One month into competition season, the Morgan County Bulldogs Cross Country Running Teams have been challenged by Head Coach Brian Johnson to “punch above their weight class.”Johnson purposely enters the Bulldog program into bigger meets, where he says they expect to finish in the middle of the road against larger schools with bigger programs. The boys and girls teams both finished 12th on Aug. 26 at the North Georgia Championship meet in Jefferson County.

    It was the great Bill Shankly that famously said, ‘Some people believe football is a matter of life and death… I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.’A lot has changed in football since Bill Shankly’s day, but the importance that the ‘beautiful game’ plays in many of our lives remains. Football clubs mean a lot to people. Sometimes, maybe too much (and I speak from experience).
