Erie Code Enforcement Conducts Follow Up Inspections on Properties with Excessive Garbage

The City of Erie Bureau of Code Enforcement is continuing targeted sweeps throughout the city, to crack down on excessive garbage and debris. Over the past two weeks, code enforcement officers have handed out more than 100 courtesy notices to property owners, giving them 14 days to remove unsightly trash from their yards. On Friday, property inspectors conducted follow up checks on those properties, to see if any action was taken.

As Election Day approaches, Democratic mayoral candidate Daria Devlin says the city's budget is heading towards a fiscal cliff. On Thursday, Devlin held a news conference, to address what she describes as unaddressed issues with the city's future budgets. "In year 2026, we're looking at a $9-million deficit," said Devlin. "It's in black and white, right on the last page of the mayor's own budget for 2025. This is only going to get worse.

Residents of downtown Erie now have access to a new convenience store. Country Fair has opened a new store on North Park Row, next to the Flagship City Food Hall. The new store is the result of a collaboration between Country Fair and the Erie Downtown Development Corporation (EDDC). Erie County Department of Health Confirms 3 Additional Measles Cases

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDH) is doing its part to slow down a measles outbreak in Erie County. The health department confirms that there have been a total of eight cases reported in Erie County, after three additional cases were reported in the past week. Those cases include two adults and six children. On Tuesday, the ECDH hosted a measles vaccination clinic at the Zem Zem Shrine Club in Millcreek.

City of Erie Code Enforcement is set to begin targeted property inspections throughout the city. Starting April 17, zoning officers will begin conducting targeted inspections in eight zones throughout the city. Zoning officers will focus on one zone at a time, going street by street to inspect each property. Property owners with excessive junk and debris in their yards will receive a courtesy notice, which gives them two weeks to address the issue.

An ordinance aimed at banning ghost guns in the City of Erie has hit a major roadblock. In a 3-3 vote, Erie City Council failed to pass an ordinance prohibiting ghost guns in the city. Ghost guns are homemade firearms that are unregistered and untraceable. The firearms lack serial numbers and can be purchased without a background check. Council members in favor of the ordinance say it's meant to reduce gun violence in the city.
