    It's been just over a year since a fire broke out in a local homeless shelter, causing damage to its theater. Nearly thirteen months later, those cleanup efforts continue. Right now, members of All An Act are in a state of limbo, as they wait to see when they can finally re-open the theater. But they plan on re-building everything, from the ground up. At the end of last April, a fire broke out inside of the All An Act theater, which is located inside of Community Shelter Services.

    The Erie Land Bank and the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Erie are highlighting ongoing efforts to address blighted properties in the city. On Wednesday, both organizations showcased a property off of Cameron Road in east Erie, which was recently rehabilitated. According to Redevelopment Authority of the City of Erie Executive Director Aaron Snippert, the property sat vacant for five years and had fallen into disarray.

    The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation, after a Mexican Navy sailing ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, killing two people and injuring 19 others. The incident has sent shockwaves through the tall ships community. "It's tragic," said Lettie G. Howard Captain William Sabatini.  "It's heartbreaking."As a fellow sailor, Captain Sabatini of the Flagship Niagara League describes the incident as terrifying.

    For David Kadouri of Toronto, Canada, it's a life-changing moment that's been years in the making. Kadouri is one of 32 immigrants from 16 countries to receive their U.S. citizenship, during a naturalization ceremony at the Erie Federal Courthouse. Each person, a different journey. "For me, it was for employment opportunity, the ability to provide a better life for my family that I could have even in a great country like Canada, which I still have a devotion to in many ways," said Kadouri.

    The City of Erie Bureau of Code Enforcement is continuing targeted sweeps throughout the city, to crack down on excessive garbage and debris. Over the past two weeks, code enforcement officers have handed out more than 100 courtesy notices to property owners, giving them 14 days to remove unsightly trash from their yards. On Friday, property inspectors conducted follow up checks on those properties, to see if any action was taken.
