LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — On May 15th around 10 a.m. on Liberty Road, Olivia Short says she was the victim of a hit-and-run while trying to save a cat in the middle of the road. “Other cars were kind of slowing down, noticing me, stopping and a truck blew through,” she said. “It could have been really bad; it hit me on the shoulder.”After a trip to the doctor, Short says she only suffered minor injuries, but the shock of being hit by a pickup truck has stuck with her.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — All across Laurel County, volunteers and organizations have set up centers for relief for tornado victims. Richard Webb with the First Presbyterian Church in London has been at the corner of a street in the Sunshine Hills Neighborhood handing out donations and supplies since Saturday morning. “We’ve been in several neighborhoods over through there and it’s just a continuous path,” he said.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — In President Donald Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ he proposes a cut on taxes for qualified tips. President and CEO of the Kentucky Restaurant Association Stacy Roof says Kentucky is known for its great restaurants, food and drinks. She says this bill would help those in the service industry. “I think it’s very positive for employees, I don’t think it’s negative for employers,” she said.

(ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky is no stranger to severe weather, but officials are sending out reminders ahead of Friday to make sure everyone stays safe, knows what to expect and how to prepare. Emily Fay with Lexington-Fayette Emerfency Management says get your house ready on both the inside and the outside. “Picking up any loose debris that could blow in the wind like tree limbs or lawn furniture, garden gnomes,” she said.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Developers have proposed a new Kroger to be built on the plot of land at 1811 Winchester Road in Lexington. The surrounding neighborhoods include homes in the Executive Park area and the Patchen Wilkes Neighborhood. In documents submitted to the city, developers also proposed buildings for potential restaurants and retails shops as well as 154 apartments to be built in the area. The surrounding roads would also be affected.
