SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Today, the Springfield Police Department welcomed 19 new recruits for its 80th Police Academy. This comes at a time when the department has dozens of unfilled positions. “It was hard because initially, about two months prior to the start of the academy, we had only six that were confirmed to start,” says Officer John Van Gorden, who is SPD’s resource manager. 16 of the recruits are men, three are women.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Business owners in west Springfield are in a state of limbo as they wait for a start date on a major construction project in the area. In early March work to tear down and replace the bridge on W. Sunshine between Scenic Drive and Kansas Expressway was supposed to begin but was delayed.
