SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A deadly virus for dogs seeing a rise in southwest Missouri. The parvovirus is a DNA virus that affects a dog’s rapidly dividing cells, meaning the intestinal tract and bone marrow are most affected. There are 36 confirmed cases in southwest Missouri. While this may not seem like a lot, Dr. Richard Lynn of the Ozark Veterinary Clinic says it is something to look out for. “It’s extremely contagious. And the virus can contaminate soil for weeks to months to years,” says Lynn.
