The first candidate for the 2026 elections for Ormond Beach City Commission has now filed. Jennifer Bright, a retired financial data analyst, filed to run to represent Zone 2 on the commission on June 2. Bright, who has lived in Ormond Beach for four years, has been a regular commission meeting attendee for the past year. She decided to run for office because she believes the commission should pay more attention to the existing residents and taking care of current infrastructure.

Florida Senate Bill 180 — legislation that would prohibit local governments from implementing more restrictive development regulations through Oct. 1, 2027 — is ready to be reviewed by the governor. If signed onto law, how will that impact Ormond Beach? Planning Board member Al Jorczak posed this question during the board's meeting on Thursday, June 12. SB 180 was passed by the Senate and House on May 2.

As Flagler County officials have yet to find a solution to funding a beach management plan, a citizen grassroots effort has emerged. Jennifer Harold, a resident of the Hammock, has launched an initiative called Protect Flagler's Beaches. The initiative calls for a holistic government approach with involvement from elected officials at the local, state and federal level to help find funding to conduct beach renourishment on all 18 miles of the county's coastline.
