Dayton softball player Gabby Chupp is the winner of the Maps Credit Union high school girls Athlete of the Week, as voted by Statesman Journal readers. A freshman pitcher, Chupp threw a complete game, struck out six and allowed just one earned run May 28 to lead the No. 3 Pirates to a 3-2 win over No. 7 Banks in the second round of the 3A state playoffs. Chupp also went 1 for 3 with two RBIs at the plate. Dayton has since reached the 3A state championship game.

Blanchet Catholic baseball player Dylan Cuff is the winner of the Maps Credit Union high school boys Athlete of the Week, as voted by Statesman Journal readers. A senior catcher, Cuff went 2 for 5 with two home runs and seven RBIs May 28 to lead the No. 1 Cavaliers to a 30-5 win over Yamhill-Carlton in the second round of the 3A state playoffs. Two days later, Cuff went 3 for 3 with one RBI in a quarterfinal win over Burns. Cuff received 52.13% of the reader poll votes.

Oregon State baseball will face Florida State in the Corvallis Super Regional starting June 6. The No. 8 overall seed Beavers (45-13-1) will host the No. 9 Seminoles (41-14) in a best-of-three series (3 p.m., ESPN2) at Goss Stadium. Florida State advanced to the super regional as the No. 1 seed out of the Tallahassee Regional by beating Mississippi State 10-3 on May 31 and 5-2 on June 1.

A pair of standout mid-valley softball teams will face off in an OSAA state championship game after winning their respective semifinal matchups June 3. No. 1 Scio (27-1) and No. 2 Dayton (26-3) are set to meet in the Class 3A state title game at noon June 6 at Jane Sanders Stadium in Eugene. The Scio Loggers are chasing their first-ever state title. They reached the 2024 championship game before falling to South Umpqua.

Final: No. 7 Oregon State 2, Long Beach State 1. Canon Reeder's two-run tank was all the offense the Beavers needed. Eric Segura, Kellan Oakes and Wyatt Queen all had quality outings for OSU. It will be Dax Whitney on the bump for the Beavers Friday at 5:35 p.m.
