This week over 1,100 healthcare workers from Kadlec are going on strike asking for better wages and staffing. For over eight months now, SEIU and Kadlec have been working to negotiate a contract for care-workers. On August 9th, SEIU sent a notice they'd go on strike. On Tuesday August 20th, that labor strike has now begun. Blanca Hinojosa, a Pharmacy Technician with Kadlec for 12 years, tells us striking was the last thing she wanted to do. She, tells us.

Tri-Cities, Wash. — 3 Rivers Community Foundation is opening their 2024 grant cycle to local non-profits. We're told it is open to 501-C-3 nonprofits serving Benton and Franklin Counties. With grants range from $1,000 to $10,000. Funding for the 2024 Grant cycle has more than tripled since 2019. Funding will be given to non-profits addressing critical issues like housing, food insecurity and mental health. 3RFC is an organization that provides grants to non-profits to help community.

Richland, Wash. — Starting Tuesday, August 20th, over 1,100 healthcare workers from Kadlec are set to strike. They're asking for higher wages and better staffing. On Monday, August 19th, we spoke with leaders from Kadlec who say they've been negotiating with SEIU, the healthcare workers union who represents the workers for eight months now. Kadlec leaders say the increase the union is asking for is well above the norm here in eastern Washington. Katy O'Connor, Chief HR Officer for Kadlec, says.

A man who sexually and physically abused a Kennewick teen is learning how long he'll spend in prison this week. 38-year-old Lucas Daniel Murphy of New Mexico was sentenced late this afternoon to 20 years behind bars to be followed by a lifetime of supervision. “This sentence sends a powerful reminder to Mr. Nott and others like him: Crimes that exploit children cannot, and will not be tolerated,” stated U.S. Attorney, Vanessa R.
