LAPEER — Chadwick Shane Mobley, 44, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole this afternoon by 40th Circuit Court Judge Mike Nolan for the Nov. 14, 2011 shooting death of Andrea Eilber, 20, of Otisville. In February, Mobley pleaded no contest to murder. A no contest plea is basically the same as a guilty plea. More than 20 people were in the courtroom for the sentencing, 14 years after Eilber was shot and killed — including many members and friends of the Eilber family.

LAPEER — The Lapeer City Commission and city officials on Monday approved numerous event applications for activities and programs planned this spring and summer in Lapeer. Readying for another season, downtown Lapeer restaurants and bars were granted right-of-way licenses to allow the businesses to serve customers in seating areas on the City’s sidewalks. Cost was $25 per license. Approved for outdoor dining/and customer seating were Blondie’s Sweet Boutique/Dagwood’s Deli, 193 W.

LAPEER — The Friends of the Marguerite deAngeli Branch Library will accept material donations this Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lapeer Center for Innovation, 170 Millville Rd. in Lapeer. Donation Days are held the second Saturday of the month. Access the building (formerly Lapeer West High School) on the west side entrance. Donations should be in good, clean condition. • No magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, vinyl records, VHS tapes or books in poor condition.
