DENVER -- For the next week or so, Kris Bryant will be restricted to not much more than a casual walk as he recovers from a procedure to fix his chronically bothersome back. The Colorado Rockies designated hitter just hopes this finally alleviates the pain. Bryant returned to town after recently traveling to Los Angeles to undergo a procedure referred to as an ablation, which is designed to interrupt pain signals being sent from the back to the brain.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Boston Red Sox put first baseman Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list with a left-quad contusion, retroactive to May 8. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox recalled 2B Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester with a plan to have him split time with Abraham Toro. Sogard was in the starting lineup Saturday against Kansas City left-hander Cole Ragans. "I think is a short-term thing," Boston manager Alex Cora said of Gonzalez before Saturday's game.

PHOENIX -- Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run ninth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a wild 14-11 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. The Dodgers trailed 11-8 entering the ninth inning after blowing an early five-run lead. Andy Pages and Enrique Hernandez hit consecutive run-scoring doubles to open the ninth inning against Kevin Ginkel (0-1). Max Muncy tied it at 11-all with a run-scoring single and Ryan Thompson replaced Ginkel to face Ohtani.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Jasson Dominguez homered three times for the New York Yankees on Friday night against the Athletics in by far the most prolific game of his career. Dominguez came into the game with two homers on the season and eight in 191 career at-bats since making his debut in the majors in 2023. He connected for a solo shot in the third inning against Osvaldo Bido, a solo shot against Hogan Harris in the seventh and then a grand slam in the eighth against Elvis Alvarado.
