The Waterloo Catholic District School Board has a new chair as it faces growing division over a controversial motion that could see Pride flags removed from Catholic schools. Trustee Renee Kraft was selected to lead the board during a meeting Monday night, following the sudden resignation of former chair Bob Sikora last month. Kraft and acting chair Linda Cuff both received four votes each from trustees, forcing a tie-breaker decided by drawing numbers.

A dog found shivering on the side of the road is learning how to love again. It’s not clear how Murphy journey started, but his life turned around when Cody Feltz noticed something odd in West Perth Township. “I just happened to see the dog sitting on the side of the rod, shivering, and [the dog] kind of looked out of place,” he told CTV News. Feltz, a township employee, was making his rounds when he first saw Murphy. He took the cold pup home in hopes of finding his owner.

An employment lawyer is calling on the province to step in as a new set of allegations were made against grocer in Waterloo Region. Three former employees of Dutchie’s Fresh Market in Waterloo, who spoke with CTV News Kitchener on Tuesday, allegedly endured verbal and physical abuse from business director Mike Renkema. Aditya Guleria, an international student from India who worked at the store in June 2024, said he is owed several thousand dollars in back pay.

A new report from the Conference Board of Canada says, while Trump’s tariffs will hurt communities across Canada, southwestern Ontario will be one of the hardest hit. The study looked at the potential impact on 24 Census Metropolitan Areas. Guelph came out on top, with a projected 2.3 per cent decrease in real GDP. Windsor was the runner-up with an estimated 2.2 per cent drop, and the Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo area ranked third with a projected 1.9 per cent decrease in real GDP.

Nine new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hubs have opened across the province just one day after the closure of Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS) sites. Two of them, the Guelph Community Health Centre at 176 Wyndham Street North and Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo at 44 Francis Street South in Kitchener, were up and running on Tuesday. The openings coincide with the provincial government’s decision to close 10 CTS sites.
