Despite predictions that it may take several days before results were known, by Wednesday morning, many races had been called, though some ballots remained to be counted. EASTON — The first time Harriette Lowery heard that Frederick Douglass had grown up in Talbot County was when she moved back to Easton with her husband in the early 2000s. Lowery was surprised to hear of Douglass’ local origins. She had grown up in Talbot County, but she had never known it was the famed abolitionist’s birthplace.

ST MICHAELS — Saturday morning’s rainy weather didn’t deter about 2,000 runners, who made their way down Talbot Street to the cheers of onlookers for the St. Michaels Running Festival. Runners came from nearly three dozen states to participate in the annual event, which included a half marathon, a 10k and a 5k this year. Paul Fagnano, 24, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, came first in the half marathon, finishing the race with a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes, 19.17 seconds.

The editorial and marketing staff of APG Media of Chesapeake garnered 19 awards in 16 categories. The awards were announced during the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association’s annual ceremony Friday, May 3, in Annapolis. The association represents over 100 member news media organizations in the region. The contest recognizes the best print and online work completed in 2023.
