MIDLAND, Texas — There's a sense of familiarity here at Momentum Bank Ballpark, the sights of baseball, snacks, and Rockhounds merch. There's one change coming this season that fans won't see. "I'm pretty much the voice inside the ballpark," new Rockhounds PA announcer Chase Cochran said. A voice that has been the same for the past 16 seasons will sound different in 2025. Cochran will take over for longtime PA announcer Wes Coles, following the announcement of his retirement earlier this year.

UTPB offering free admission to Falcon football games for Fall 2024 season

According to the University of Texas Permian Basin, all Falcon football games and tailgating spots this season will be free to the community. The decision comes in the wake of the Falcon's historic 2023 season as Lone Star Conference champions and in celebration of UTPB's 50th anniversary. Tailgating in the parking lot at both Ratliff and Astound stadiums is open to all. Just show up, pick a spot, bring friends, coolers, and game day food.
Coach David Wood to be Odessa College head baseball coach

ODESSA, Texas — Odessa College has announced their new head baseball coach. According to a release, Coach David Wood has accepted the position of head coach of the Wranglers. Coach Wood has been the Interim Head Coach at San Jacinto College in Houston since Nov. 2023, where he was previously the assistant coach. The team finished the year with a 40-21 record and advanced to the NJCAA Super Regional Tournament.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Midland RockHounds announced their 2024 field staff on Tuesday, naming the new manager, Gregorio Petit, ahead of the 2024 season. Petit is a former Rockhound infielder who played for the club in 2007 before making it to the big leagues, hitting .306 in 66 games and flashing his defensive skills. Most recently, Petit managed Stockton Ports, an Oakland Athletics Single-A affiliate, in the California League in 2023.

ODESSA, Texas — Odessa College has hired a new men's and women's cross country/track and field coach, the school announced on Friday. Chris Beene will be tasked with reviving the program that was suspended back in 2021. Beene comes to Odessa with experience at a number of levels. The new coach has previously served as an assistant coach at Abilene Christian University and Texas Tech University. Beene held the head coach title at Wayland Baptist University and South Plains College.

MIDLAND, Texas — The UIL announced the newest classifications and district alignment for the 2024-2026 seasons for football, basketball and volleyball. First, the District 2-6a, which includes Midland High, Midland Legacy, Odessa High, Odessa Permian, San Angelo Central and Wolfforth Frenship, will stay exactly the same in all three sports.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Tech football team will play its annual Spring Game in Midland in 2024, the school announced Friday afternoon. This contest is slated for April 20, 2024 with a 1 p.m. kickoff. Television and fan information will be announced at a later time. The location was changed because of ongoing construction at Jones AT&T Stadium. The move marks the first time since 2019 that the Red Raiders have played in the Permian Basin.
