WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One Wichita veteran spent most of his adult life in the Kansas Army National Guard, and he is grateful for all the opportunities it has brought him. Wichita’s Aaron Reynolds has always been inspired by the men and women who serve our country, but a national tragedy took that admiration to another level. “I was in seventh grade when 9/11 happened, so of course that sparked another interest and want to serve somehow,” Reynolds said.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The price of eggs has some Kansans considering raising chickens in their backyard. KSN spoke to a Wichita family to learn if homegrown eggs are all they’re cracked up to be. The Villalobos family has been raising chickens in their backyard for five years. “So, at the start of COVID, we got chickens. We decided to hedge against some security. As everything started locking down, we wanted the kids to have something to do for fun, and it also gave us eggs,” Jeremy Villalobos said.

AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW) — Len Hudson was born in Wellington, but moved to Augusta in 1958. He’s called it home ever since. After graduating from high school, Len went on to college at Butler and Wichita State. But as the Vietnam War escalated, his path changed — he joined the Army. “I got this thing in the mail from the Army that said ‘Hey, you’ve got a college degree. You can be an officer.’ So I went over and talked to a guy at the recruiting center and he set me up, and I signed up.

AUGUSTA, Kan. (KSNW) — For Navy veteran Susan “Sue” Gregg, serving her country was more than a duty — it was a calling. After completing junior college, she felt drawn to the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1968 during the height of the Vietnam War. While many were deployed overseas, Sue’s service took her to an entirely different battlefield: the Pentagon. “I think the Lord directed me there because He’s directed my whole life, and I think that was His plan,” Sue said.

Now, the spotlight shifts to his wife, Christina Annen, who also served in the U.S. Air Force. A Calling to ServeChristina Annen is a Wichita native who graduated from East High School in 1985, feeling a strong pull toward military service. “It was natural for me to go into the military,” Annen shared.
