AUSTIN, Texas — Authorities have provided an update to a KVUE Defenders investigation. In December, we told you about a Travis County man who lost thousands of dollars after unknowingly buying a stolen mini excavator off Facebook Marketplace. Brandon Copley said he was using the equipment at his home in July when a repo man showed up and repossessed it, telling Copley that the mini excavator belonged to a Home Depot out of Georgia.

HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Nichole Humes, the Hays County woman caught practicing law without a license in Texas, avoided prison time for the third-degree felony. On Monday, a visiting judge sentenced Humes to five years deferred adjudication instead. She faced up to 10 years in prison after being charged with falsely holding herself out as an attorney. The judge accepted a plea deal struck by state and defense attorneys back in September.

FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas — As the population in Texas grows, so does the need for power. The demand for renewable energy is also on the rise as these projects take off in the Lone Star State. The question is: Where should those massive wind turbines and battery energy storage facilities go? Some Central Texas homeowners, like Tammy Jo McCleney, told the KVUE Defenders, "Not in my backyard." McCleney invited KVUE to her Schulenburg home, where she shared her daily routine.

AUSTIN, Texas — Since a North Austin auto body repair shop closed its doors in August, more customers have reached out to the KVUE Defenders, concerned about getting their cars back. Laura Zendejas took her car to Hail Specialists Auto Body and Collision in July to fix accident damage. But the Del Valle resident said she started to worry when she couldn't get repair updates after about a month.
