Firefighters from Cork City Fire Brigade tackled a major blaze at the city's former Good Shepherd Convent in Sunday's Well overnight. A number of hot spots remain this morning, with crews unable to enter the building because the Victorian structure is dangerous. Up to 20 firefighters fought the blaze at the derelict building, which has been the subject of several large fires in the past two decades.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Daniel O'Sullivan in Youghal, Co Cork, on Monday night. Reece Keogh, with an address at North Main Street, Youghal, appeared before a sitting of Midleton District Court where he was charged with the murder of Mr O'Sullivan at Tynan's Bar, 147 North Main Street, Youghal on 14 April, contrary to Common Law.

A step closer to a ten minute 'turn-up and ride' rail service for Cork commuters has been reached with the opening of a new 220 metre platform at Kent Station. Platform 6 will allow for a significant increase in train service frequency, with commuters able to travel between Mallow in the north of the county, and Cobh/Midleton in the east without having to change trains at Kent Station.
