    Belleville-based U-Mark Inc., manufacturer and distributor of paint and ink markers and related products, will expand the beyond of its existing facility at 102 Iowa Ave. The business recently acquired an adjacent property at 1200 E. A St., adding an additional 8,000 square feet of space to U-Mark’s existing 20,000 square feet of space. The expansion will create five to 10 new jobs, adding to U-Mark’s current roster of 43 employees, said Francesco Ziniti, executive vice president for U-Mark.

    A Dairy Queen Grill & Chill location damaged by fire earlier this year will return. Owner Chad Sanders said in a phone interview he “always knew we were going to reopen” the Freeburg restaurant. Now that the insurance process is complete, he was able to make a decision about the next steps. Initially Sanders thought they might be able to at least save two of the structure’s walls, but all that will remain of the damaged building is the slab.

    The Michaels Companies Inc. announced Thursday that the art and hobby supplies retailer acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of Joann, which closed all of its remaining stores at the end of May. Michaels’ press release stated that more than “600 products across new and existing brands, including sewing and quilting supplies, fabric, yarn, specialty threads, sewing machines, and more” would be added for an improved customer experience.

Midway Plaza in Fairview Heights will soon be fully occupied again, according to a recent director’s report from Dallas Alley, the city’s land use and economic development director. Located at 10900 Lincoln Trail, the plaza’s row of suites currently has one tenant – ImpactLife, a blood donation center – that occupies Suite B.
