An Upstate convenience store and gas station operator is eyeing a fast-growing Berkeley County town for a new location. Greenville-based Spinx has applied for a permit with the S.C. Department of Environmental Services to develop 6.6 acres for a store at 3212 Old Highway 52 in Moncks Corner. Meanwhile, the chain is set to open its newest Lowcountry-area location in Mount Pleasant on the site of former Richard's Bar & Grill property on Highway 17, just north of Home Depot, this summer.

The store leans into the culture of the world's most popular beverage after water with curated goods that include teapots, mugs, diffusers, honey and gift boxes among an array of tins, sachets, by-the-ounce specialty tea and bricks of the loose leaves. The shop also sells packaged specialty coffee blends.

SUMMERVILLE — Walmart is knocking on the door to Cane Bay Plantation. The sprawling mega residential development in Summerville, slated to have upwards of 10,000 single-family homes and townhomes when fully built out, could soon see a new discount store near its entrance. The retail giant has proposed a 171,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter on 46 acres at 2000 State Road, also known as U.S. Highway 176.
