With the closing credits rolling to Hollywood’s biggest labor fight in decades, production work on South Carolina film projects are expected to resume soon. The long-awaited resolution was reached overnight on Nov. 8, nearly four months after film and television actors went on strike. The proposed three-year contract still must be approved by the board of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and its members in the coming days.

Marcus Shell has evolved his cooking into more than just a way to sustain himself. For the 39 Rue de Jean executive chef and South Carolina Chef Ambassador, food is his way of self-expression. It was not just a hop, skip and a jump from his mom’s scrambled eggs to serving food at an established restaurant in Charleston. Shell grew up in New Bedford, Mass., home to one of the East Coast’s largest commercial fisheries. Surrounded by seafood, Shell saw cooking pique his curiosity at a young age.

After work on a Monday at Collins Park in North Charleston, there is no one on the tennis courts. But the park is filled with plinks and plonks. The sounds of ten pickleball courts, all in use. There is even a line for the next open court. The sport is growing exponentially in the area and across the world, and some of its finest players reside here in Charleston. Jake Kusmider, former College of Charleston tennis team standout, has made the switch to pickleball and has not looked back.

This is part of The Post and Courier’s Daily Digest series, in which one of our food reporters asks a local to describe a day of eating in detail. Aaron Lipka teaches Latin at Ashley Hall. He has been a Latin instructor in Charleston for just over 20 years. For me, breakfast is often scrambled eggs and toast with butter, but if I am in a hurry a bowl of Greek yogurt with blueberries and granola. In both cases, at least one cup of coffee with honey and cream.
