Hundreds of families will get Easter meals thanks to the Illinois Valley Food Pantry. The pantry in La Salle is having its client Easter food basket distribution Wednesday from 1 until 6. Expect increased traffic in and around Wright Street in downtown La Salle during the pick-up. Line-up will start at 12:30 at the city parking lot on 2nd Street. Current IV Food Pantry clients don't have to sign up in advance for an Easter basket. The pantry will be closed next Friday in observance of Good Friday.

The largest fundraiser for a group that helps furry friends around Starved Rock Country is happening soon. Illinois Valley Animal Rescue is hosting its 26th Annual Building and Care Fund Auction at Grand Bear Lodge in Utica on Saturday, April 5th. Live and silent auctions will have everything from furniture, electronics, small appliances, home and yard items, to tools, and even jewelry up for bid. Doors open on the 5th at 4 o'clock.

Fresh produce and plenty of other locally-made goods will be on display and for sale once again this spring and summer in downtown Ottawa. The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce is having a kickoff meeting for their upcoming Farmers and Makers Market season. Returning vendors and new vendors are both urged to attend Tuesday morning's meeting at 8 inside the IVCC Ottawa Center.

The youngest candidate for mayor in La Salle says he's running to try and give back to his community. After getting married and having a child, Tyler Thompson says running for mayor seemed like the next box to check off. His vision as mayor is to make La Salle the major city in La Salle County. Thompson says there's 300 acres La Salle owns along Interstate 80 and Interstate 39 that need to be developed: Your browser does not support the audio element.

After three straight elections in which he ran unopposed, La Salle Mayor Jeff Grove finds himself with three opponents in the April 1st election. Frequent Grove critic Jamie Hicks is running as are Gary Hammers and Tyler Thompson. Economic development is one of the top issues facing the city whether it's downtown or along the interstate. Grove says the city has a lot of good things going on and wants to continue that progress.
