Congresswoman Lauren Underwood has nominated 14 projects worth a total of $26 million in for improvement projects around her district. Three of the 14 are being considered in La Salle County. It's important to note that these are not funded grants, just examples of what the congresswoman is requesting from the federal government. For Oglesby, Underwood is asking for just over a million dollars to help replace water main lines that are impacted by lead and/or asbestos cement.

The Utica Garden Club is holding its 23rd-annual Garden Faire and Plant Sale this weekend. It'll be happening both Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 4 at the Canal Market in Utica. The proceeds from the sale will go toward a scholarship at Illinois Valley Community College. And, the organization says it's also sponsoring a scholarship at La Salle-Peru Township High School to support the new agriculture program. The plant sale will happen rain or shine. And only cash or check will be accepted.

If you live in Streator, you might experience a brief change in your water. Illinois American Water has started flushing hydrants in Streator as part of its annual maintenance program. You can expect the work to be done by June 20. Until then, hydrants will be checked for functionality, repaired if necessary, and flushed. Hydrant flushing involves increasing water flow rates. This can help scour mineral deposits.

IDOT says it wants to see whatever inspires you, or helps you get where you're going – an airport, a bridge, or an interesting stretch of road, to name a few. The contest starts Friday and runs through June 20.

Marquis Energy in Hennepin is scheduled to be awarded a draft permit for a new injection well on its property. The company has floated a project to capture, transport via pipeline, and store CO2 on its campus. The proposed well would hold CO2 plant emissions in a deep geologic reservoir on the Marquis property. You have a chance to learn more about the project, and share any concerns, at the Granville branch of the Putnam County Library next Thursday, June 12.
