The veteran winger might be coming back to the Toronto Maple Leafs on another short-term deal. Max Pacioretty is reportedly leaning towards inking an extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs before the start of the NHL's free agency period, which begins on July 1st. According to James Mirtle of The Athletic, who was at the NHL’s Scouting Combine in Buffalo, both sides are interested in getting a new contract signed. I suspect a new deal would be for one year, possibly two for around $800K - $900K.

The Toronto Maple Leafs do not have a lot of picks at the 2025 NHL Draft, but they do have some options for them. The Toronto Maple Leafs currently have no picks in the first round of the 2025 NHL entry draft. That could change between now and June 27, but the team focuses on the second round. I believe the Leafs should focus on drafting a defenseman, which I covered in another article. Still, it never hurts to draft the best player available, regardless of position.

The goaltender that just won the Memorial Cup is available as a free agent. He should be invited to Leafs training camp this fall. The Toronto Maple Leafs should invite sensational young goaltender Austin Elliott to training camp. Elliott just backstopped the London Knights of the OHL to a Memorial Cup victory. Back in March, I wrote about how the Leafs should pursue Elliott to add to their goaltending depth for the future. Elliott is not an unknown to the Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs' first pick at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft will be in the second round. Here are four blueliners that could be available for them to take. The Toronto Maple Leafs currently have no picks in the first round of the 2025 NHL entry draft. That could change between now and June 26th, but the team will focus on the second round if they fail to acquire a pick in the first round. One position the Leafs need to stockpile their prospect pool with is defense.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are likely to re-sign forward John Tavares this off-season. He may be on the wrong side of 30, but he didn’t play like it, as he was one of the Leafs most productive players in 2024-25. Tavares registered 38 goals and 36 assists for 74 points in 75 games. Good enough for fourth on the team in scoring, while his seven points (five goals and two assists) in 13 playoff games were fifth on the Leafs.
