    AN INTER-AGENCY task force has been created to look into the possible presence of a zoonotic disease on Siquijor island. The Siquijor Provincial Health Office (SPHO), in a Facebook post, said the Negros Island Region One Health Task Force has been created, consisting of the Department of Health (DOH), Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Animal Industry.

    HEALTH authorities are investigating possible cases of glanders disease on Siquijor Island. Razel Nikka Hao, director of the  Department of Health (DOH) Negros Island Region, said in a statement on Monday, May 19, 2025, that test results from suspected cases are still being validated. Glanders is a rare zoonotic disease caused by bacteria, primarily affecting horses, donkeys and mules. It can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected animals.

    SIQUIJOR Governor Jake Villa has confirmed the presence of zoonotic disease cases in the province. In a Facebook post, Villa urged the public to exercise caution, particularly those who are exposed to goats, carabaos, and other domestic animals. "Ang probinsya sa Siquijor aduna nay confirmed cases sa sakit nga zoonotic disease nga gikan sa masakiton nga hayop ug posibleng motakod sa tawo," said Villa.

Nine senators endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte got a high number of votes in Cebu, with reelectionist Sen. Bong Go securing the top spot with 1,263,830 votes as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.  Cebu, a vote-rich province, has 3.4 million registered voters.
