Demetreus Ulyseus Darme, of Hamilton, was charged with felony aggravated burglary in Ravalli County Justice Court on Monday, May 12. According to court documents, two deputies with the Ravalli County Sherriff’s Office responded to a Victor residence on Fred Burr Road on Saturday, May 10 after a man called 911 to report he was being attacked by a man in a black cowboy hat and a trench coat.

    A new fire was identified in the Bitterroot about 11 miles south of Hamilton near Harlan Creek in Darby on Friday afternoon, May 9. The Bitterroot National Forest (BNF) did not give an estimated size of the blaze. Resources are currently responding to the fire according to a BNF social media post on Friday evening. Retardant drops are being performed on new fire start. It’s the second fire identified in the Bitterroot this week.

    Twenty-six wild horses found new homes during the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro adoption event in Hamilton May 2-4. Of the 26 horses placed into new homes, 19 were adults and seven yearlings. With a 72% placement rate into private care, “the event demonstrated the public’s continued interest in adopting and caring for America’s iconic wild horses,” according to a BLM statement released Thursday.

    Fire season is off to an early start in the Bitterroot Valley this year after a wildfire was identified in the Big Creek area 9.5 miles west of Stevensville on Wednesday, May 7 by the Bitterroot National Forest (BNF). Fire managers conducted a reconnaissance flight on Thursday morning. An initial report identified the fire at 1 acre but after aerial reconnaissance and ground confirmation the fire is now estimated at 75 acres according to BNF.

    A Corvallis woman is facing a felony child abuse charge after a youth showed up to school with a visible lump on his head and bruising on his leg according to law enforcement. Dena Lynn Allen, 59, of Corvallis, was charged with felony assault on a minor in Ravalli County Justice Court on Friday, May 2. According to court documents, a deputy with the Ravalli County Sherriff’s Office responded to a report of an assault that occurred on April 30.
