If I had a nickel for every time I heard a high school classmate say, “I don’t understand why I have to study geometry, I’m never going to use that stuff in real life,” I’d be a wealthy woman today. HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Holiday Weekend is upon us, and we’re calling for both heat and rain. We have a front to our north and a tropical low in the gulf contributing to our rain chances. The tropical low in the Gulf of Mexico has been identified as an area of interest by the National Hurricane Center. It is not expected to develop into a named storm, but it will remain offshore and bring flooding potential to the northern Coastal Bend of Texas, and Coastal Louisiana.

In the most recent update from the National Hurricane Center, Potential Tropical Cyclone One has not been upgraded to a named tropical storm. The Tropical Storm Warning has been extended further inland to include all of Cameron and Willacy Counties. This means winds could reach 39-57mph over the next 36 hours. The biggest threat remains flooding. The heaviest rain is forecast to occur from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning. We are in a moderate risk for Excessive Rainfall.
