Jill Louise Greilich, age 84, of Dahlonega, Georgia, USA, died peacefully April 18, 2024. Jill was born July 16, 1939, in Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Canada. Jill was best known for a musical life played with “Heart and Soul.” In her youth, Jill lived in Watson, Saskatchewan and studied piano via the outreach of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto; music gave her immense joy. Jill graduated from the University of Saskatchewan-Regina.

Gaynell Hooper, age 89 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at her residence. Born in Hall County on January 19, 1935, Mrs. Hooper was the daughter of the late William Cicero Shockley and the late Izora Garner Shockley. Mrs. Hooper worked in textiles at Mt. Vernon Mills and she was a member of Habersham Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hooper is preceded in death by husband Jimmy Lamar Hooper, sons Donald Sosebee and David Sosebee and daughter Teresa Jean Sosebee.

Edward James Brown, age 96, moved to Georgia in 2021 from San Antonio, Texas, and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4, 2024. Born at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas on July 19, 1927, he was a son of the late Lee & Neille Cooper Brown. Ed, was an Eagle Boy Scout, a graduate of the University of Texas, a professional engineer and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He retired from Bexar County in San Antonio, Texas where he served as the county engineer.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — One of the surest ways to kill an alligator, eventually, is to start feeding it. Herpetologist Jake Reinbolt made a passionate case against the practice last week at the 26th annual Winter Outdoor Wildlife Expo at the Hilton Garden Inn. Reinbolt transferred last September from Gator County Louisiana in Natchitoches to the Island to supervise alligators and other reptiles at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center and Alligator Sanctuary.
