The first incident happened on Saturday, as a police officer was hit and “dragged up the road” by a car while on duty. In a social media post, the Police South Belfast Facebook account said the the driver of the vehicle was allegedly “four times the drink drive limit” when the officer was hit. The incident happened in the Lisburn road area on Saturday evening and left the officer with a number of injuries to her arms and ribs.

The casualty became trapped in his overturned car following the crash in Brookeborough on Monday morning. Police, paramedics and fire crews attended the scene on Belfast Road. The charity Air Ambulance was also despatched before the driver was safely extracted from the car and airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital following assessment of his injuries.

The east Belfast politician faced off against party colleague Philip Brett during the festivities at the DUP’s annual BBQ in Lurgan’s Brownlow House. The party’s politicians and their families gathered at Grade A listed 19th century estate at the weekend, with other councillors and members of the DUP also sharing snaps. Mr Brett is MLA for North Belfast, having been elected to the Assembly in May 2022.

Alliance councillor Micky Murray took to social media to respond to nasty comments about bald patches in his beard. He said he developed the health condition at the beginning of this year. “Just read a load of comments slagging me off because I have a bald patch in my beard,” Mr Murray posted on X. "Since (January), right in the middle of a very busy term as Lord Mayor, I developed alopecia due to working so much.
