MP Gregory Campbell has met the owners of the former Shackleton Barracks to discuss the potential economic boost from the Government’s renewed commitment to the Heathrow Airport Expansion. Back in 2019, before the multi-billion-pound third runway project was shelved, the Ballykelly site was in the running to become one of several ‘logistics hub’. With the aim of dispersing thousands of jobs beyond the South East, components were to be assembled off-site before being transported to London.

COUNCILLORS have backed plans for wider public engagement over its Green Lane Museum in Roe Valley Country Park. On Tuesday (April 15) members of Cloonavin’s Leisure and Development Committee agreed the facilities were a valuable heritage asset that deserved a bigger audience. The listed early 19th century linen mill houses a collection of exhibits relating to rural life in the Roe Valley including farming, local trades and linen industries.

COUNTY Londonderry’s only agricultural show at Aghanloo near Limavady “could fold” if organisers aren’t given support from Causeway Coast and Glens Council. The warning was delivered by DUP’s Aaron Callan after councillors met to endorse this year’s funding package for non-council organised events. Last month a list of 10 recipients was approved at committee level. The County Londonderry Agricultural Show was the only event whose application failed.

THE DUP has demanded an independent review of an application process that saw GAA clubs win around half the cash from a new council grant scheme. In response, the Sinn Féin chair of the committee that oversees the fund accused them of “casting aspersions” on the integrity of council officers. The £600,000 Capital Grants Programme was established last year to help sports and community organisations develop facilities.
