It took about 20 minutes to knock down the blaze, which was reported at 7:25 am, according to the L.A. Fire Department. "Crews on the roof and the interior worked in coordination to extinguish all flames and ensure there were no victims," said an LAFD Alert. Highland Park -- Five years ago, four locals involved in the arts took over a bookstore and reimagined it as The Pop-Hop—a cooperative space where zines, art, and activism could thrive. What began as a solo-run bookshop is now a hub for creators of color, grassroots educators, and neighborhood residents. This Saturday, May 3, The Pop-Hop celebrates its fifth anniversary with a full day of $5 workshops, $10 performances, and community-building activities.
