Global News has learned the identity of the young firefighter who lost his life fighting the Jasper wildfires. Morgan Kitchen, 24, died a hero. He was part of the Alberta Wildfire crew and was fatally injured by a falling tree. A tribute post shared online stated that Kitchen had a bold and brilliant personality. The family of a man struck and killed by a CTrain last week wanted to bring some clarity to what happened that day. Last Wednesday, 48-year-old Sean Mackidd pulled over to help strangers after their vehicle stalled out in between the train tracks on Memorial Drive. MacKidd’s sister, Krista Pardoe, said while they were estranged, he was a strong man who struggled most of his life.

A couple of Calgarians have been given an invaluable gift worth hearing about. Since moving here from the Philippines 5 years ago, Alfred Roxas has been working in customer service. Over time, the 23-year-old has experienced hearing loss. His hearing got progressively worse, to the point his patrons have to repeat their orders every time. “I can’t hear anything. It sounds like whispers to me,” Roxas said.

A Calgary documentary made and produced in honour of the Indigenous woman has been released. Gerald Auger created Warrior Women. It was a calling he felt compelled to answer, crediting the wisdom of a dying matriarch. “Warrior women is what my late grandmother told me on her death bed. She said: ‘In the future the woman is going to rise,'” Auger said. The film is meant to move audiences to learn and to heal, as it details some hard truths about Indigenous women.
