OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — On average, 10 people die by drowning each day, and the majority of those deaths are adults. At Keystone pool, instructors want to help adults learn the basics to stay stay in the water. Video shows swim instructor Sue Nutty training with swimmer Jan Sedivy. For over 40 years, Sue Nutty has been teaching swim lessons, and now at Keystone, she's helping adults take the first step. Jan Sedivy learned how to swim at 65 years old and wants to encourage others to learn too.

BENNINGTON, Neb. (KMTV) — It's called The Haven at Bennington: a four-story building with retail and apartment space. We spoke to the developer who says there's a need for more commercial development downtown. We spoke to developer Joshuwa Hannum and neighbors about the project. From cauliflower to tomatoes, and 39 varieties of peppers, Benson Plant Rescue started offering free veggies to veterans as a way to help those who are struggling with something to brighten up their space. Robin Flynn is a Navy veteran who served during the Gulf War.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — It's called the Nebraska Growing Readers Program, and since it launched in October of 2023, it has distributed over 885,000 books to nearly 38,000 kids aged 3 to 5. An evaluation done by the Nebraska Children’s Research Team and the Munroe Meyer Institute shows that an increase in access to books had a ripple effect. The Nebraska Department of Education invested $2 million into the program after seeing a gap in literacy development among kids from birth to age five.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Some neighbors are outraged over Congressman Don Bacon's vote yes to pass President Trump's reconciliation bill. At Memorial Park, many are trying to bring awareness to how this bill will affect Medicaid and SNAP benefits for thousands of Nebraskans. According to an analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation, up to 57,000 Nebraskans are at risk of losing their health coverage as a result of this bill.
