    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The nonprofit is partnering with Trex, a company that makes composite wood from recycled materials. Goodwill has collected 17,000 pounds of plastic so far in just two months. From this Earth Day forward, Goodwill is also discontinuing its use of plastic bags in all of its stores. Whether it's a grocery, garbage, or produce bag, Goodwill is now taking plastic bag donations as part of its latest sustainability effort.

    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The county says the company contracted to program the auto-activation system, American Signal, made a programming error caused by a typo when entering data into the system. At the beginning of 2025, the Douglas County Emergency Management Agency started using a new siren technology system. There was no tornado threat Monday night, but the area where the sirens were activated in northwest Omaha was under a thunderstorm warning issued by the National Weather Service.

Developers are sharing their reason for investing in this space. Lite Development wants to tear some of the old silos down and build an apartment complex. There would be 233 units and 278 parking stalls on five acres of land. Some neighbors have concerns—many over the added traffic the complex could bring.

    OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — This Saturday, the Habitat ReStore will have local experts sharing tips on gardening and wallet-friendly ways to re-purpose and restore household materials, including furniture. Market vendor Diane Flynn will be showing shoppers how they can take an item from the store, like an old bench, and spruce it up. Each year, the Habitat ReStore saves about 300,000 items from the landfill. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at both restore location.
