Bunge North America Inc. is requesting an amendment to a air quality permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The Council Bluffs soybean processing plant at 19560 Bunge Ave. is proposing the replacement of its existing meal finishing baghouse, which removes dust and particulates from air streams. The DNR is accepting public comment on Project No. 25-133 through June 20. The permit is available for review at idnraqrr.iowadnr.gov/ConPermitSearch.

Eight teachers in the Treynor Community School District received classroom grants for "extras" to enrich the learning experiences for their students. The Treynor Community Schools Foundation received an anonymous donation of $10,000 for a matching challenge program, enabling the foundation to award classroom grants for the 2025-26 school year, according to a news release. The grant applications allowed for up to $500 in awards for field trips, supplies, classroom needs and similar requests.

The fifth LoHi Trek brought hikers from eight states and 30 ZIP codes to explore the Loess Hills. Inspired by Kelly Madigan’s 2020 hike, LoHi — short for Loess Hills — has included sections of all seven counties the Loess Hills spans, according to a news release. This year's LoHi Trek spanned portions of Pottawattamie, Harrison and Mills counties.

More than $1.3 million will flow to 120 organizations and community initiatives in Southwest Iowa through the latest round of grants from the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa. The initiatives funded include historic preservation, public safety, early child care and community development, according to a news release. The Southwest Iowa Foundations provides support to the community foundations serving Audubon, Cass, Crawford, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page and Shelby counties.
