OAKDALE, La. (KPLC) - A former nurse at Oakdale Community Hospital is accused of sexually assaulting two patients. John Richard, 57, of Sunset, worked at the hospital as a contract nurse, Oakdale Chief of Police Chad Doyle said. Richard is suspected of sexually assaulting two patients, Doyle said. He is being held at the Allen Parish Jail on charges of second-degree rape; malfeasance in office (jails); and sexual battery.

CAMERON, La. (KPLC) - The body of a driver was recovered from a Cameron Parish waterway this afternoon. Sheriff Ron Johnson says authorities were notified just before 2 a.m. by an on-board safety system that a vehicle was involved in a crash on La. 27. When deputies responded, there were no obvious signs of a crash, but divers were called in to search the water. Louisiana Department of Fisheries and Wildlife first searched with sonar and were able to determine something was in the water.

ALLEN PARISH, La. (KPLC) - A recent change to the Coushatta Tribe’s compact with the State of Louisiana has some local entities wondering if they have lost a portion of their budget. KPLC’s investigative team has obtained a document which went into effect this week, that amends the tribal-state compact with the Coushatta Tribe.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The new proposal for the I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River will still include tolls, but they will be much lower, new Gov. Jeff Landry said. Landry said while speaking at the Chamber Southwest banquet Thursday night that the new proposal will cost 25 percent less to build and will include a 15 percent equity position for Imperial Calcasieu, under which the area will get 15 percent of any profits made. Tolls have been reduced across the board by 26 percent, he said.
