One person died Saturday afternoon after a shooting in the Elmwood area of Oak Cliff, Dallas police said. On May 24 at about 5:50 p.m., Dallas police responded to a call for service in the 1900 block of Berkley Avenue. The preliminary investigation determined that when officers arrived, they located an unconscious male victim in the alley, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and the victim died.

A fundraiser has been set up to support the family of a 9-year-old boy who was killed while crossing the street near Felix Botello Elementary School in Oak Cliff last Thursday afternoon. Jose Armando Garcia Ledesma died after he was hit by a truck in the 200 block of South Marsalis Avenue .An adult and two other children were also struck by the vehicle. All four victims, including Jose and two girls ages 9 and 11, were taken to the hospital, where Jose died of his injuries.

A child was killed, and three others were injured after being struck by a vehicle while leaving Felix Botello Elementary School in Oak Cliff on Thursday afternoon. According to Fox 4 and Dallas officials, one adult and three children were struck by a truck while leaving the school on South Marsalis Avenue. The adult and three children were crossing an area without a crosswalk.

Dallas has climbed four spots in the Trust for Public Land’s 2024 ParkScore Ranking, moving from #38 in 2023 to #34 this year. Plano has maintained its place atop the rankings in Texas for several years. The city ranked 17th nationally after ranking 16th for the last two years, and earning No. 15 in 2021 and 2022. Elsewhere across the Metroplex, Fort Worth rose through the ranks to claim No. 72 nationally this year, previously landing in the No. 91 spot in 2024.
