Elly Bowers was where she wanted to be in the shootout game during the Class 5A semifinal girls soccer game on May 15 at the University of Denver’s Ciber Field. Bowers was the sophomore goalkeeper for Castle View who was asked to contain Broomfield in a shootout after the teams battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation time and two overtimes. She made two key saves in the first overtime.

With two important games looming against Grandview next week for the Centennial League regular season championship, it could have been easy for Cherry Creek to look past their game against Arapahoe on May 3. However, the Bruins were focused and rolled to a 12-1 Centennial win over Arapahoe in a game called after five innings due to a mercy rule. Cherry Creek will take a 15-game winning streak into the Grandview series with games set for May 6 at Cherry Creek and May 9 at Grandview.

What looked like a lopsided game on paper turned out to be one-sided, as Arapahoe won a 14-0 Centennial League decision over Smoky Hill on April 26. Arapahoe stayed near the top of the league standings with a 4-2 record and improved to 11-5 overall. Meanwhile, Smoky Hill saw its Centennial record tumble to 1-7, and the Buffaloes are 6-11 overall. “You can never look at any opponent and say we’re going to easily win the game,” said Arapahoe Coach Jim Dollaghan. “That’s what I was most happy with.

Castle View boys volleyball captain Austin Keathley knows the Sabercats are a different team than the one that was playing earlier this month. The Sabercats dropped three consecutive matches in early April and saw their season record dip to 5-4. However, Castle View has now won six straight matches to improve to 14-6 for the season after winning the Kings of the Castle tournament on April 19, hosted by Douglas County High School.
