The Palace Saloon 5K is the city's oldest and fastest 5K race. And, after 39 years, it has a new record holder. Stan Linton clocked a 14:34 in last Saturday's 3.1-mile race to eclipse the previous course record of 14:36 set by Paul Waldron in 1986. Linton, a former Florida State and Wakulla High runner, blistered the course with a 4:42 pace and crossed the finish line 61 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Sadio Fenner (15;35). One swing turned the game into an instant classic. Chip Baker can't recall a more dramatic ending that favored FSU in its annual baseball series that dates back six decades against rival Florida. "Oh my goodness, to me it's No. 1," said Baker, the former Seminoles' director of baseball operations and third base coach under legendary Mike Martin. "To me it's the best one, and I am glad I got to see it."Alex Lodise's heroics Tuesday night in Jacksonville still has FSU fans and former players buzzing.
