BELTON, Texas — A Bell County Judge sentenced Manual Oscar Ramirez to 40 years in prison Friday for the murder of Bell County Deputy John Rhoden. In addition to the murder charge, Ramirez was sentenced to 10 years for arson which occurred on Nov. 8, 2024 while he was in the Bell County Jail where he set a mattress on fire. Rhoden was killed on April 26, 2020, while trying to put down spike strips to stop Ramirez who was leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

WACO, Texas — A construction crew using a backhoe hit a gas main Thursday morning near North 23rd St. and Proctor Ave. in Waco, according to the Waco Fire Department. Waco Fire Chief Robby Bergenson said it happened just after 11 a.m. and led to school officials at St. Louis Catholic and Reicher High School to release students for the rest of the day. Several homes in the area were also evacuated.

It came after more than 12 hours of deliberations. Allison was accused of stabbing Joe Ramirez to death in a bathroom of Belton High School in 2022.
