We’ve declared a First Alert Weather Day through midweek as a dangerous and prolonged heat wave intensifies across Eastern North Carolina. Extreme temperatures and stifling humidity will bring heat index values well above 105°, with some spots approaching or even exceeding 110° Monday through Wednesday. A Heat Advisory is in effect beginning 10 AM Monday through 10 AM Tuesday for much of the region.

Another round of showers and storms are stat redevelop Monday afternoon into the overnight hours. A First Alert Weather Day continues into night for the returning flood risk. With the threat of more heavy rainfall Monday afternoon/evening, a Flood Watch is active through 2am tonight (give or take) for all counties in eastern NC. The risk of severe storms will be low, but a few storms may produce damaging wind gusts between 40–60 mph.

High pressure will ensure one more nice day Wednesday with continued mostly sunny skies and seasonable temps. That all changes on Thursday as a wet area of low pressure moves slowly through eastern NC. Thursday’s area of low pressure will move in from the south Thursday morning bringing widespread showers from sunrise through sunset. There will likely be a few rumble’s of thunder, but severe storms are unlikely.

High pressure will stick around through Wednesday with continued mostly sunny skies and seasonable temps. Tuesday brings more sun filled skies with relatively low humidity levels. Cool 50s at sunrise will jump to the mid 80s by mid afternoon with light southeast winds. Similar conditions are likely Wednesday with increasing late day clouds. By late week, moisture increases again as an area of low pressure forms along the southeast U.S. coast system near Florida lifts northward.

A drying and warming trend begins Monday afternoon as high pressure moves in. Expect mostly sunny skies and gradually warming temps each day through midweek. Highs will climb from the low 80s inland Monday to the upper 80s by Wednesday and Thursday. By late week, moisture increases again as high pressure shifts offshore and a weak system near Florida lifts northward. This could bring back rain chances as early as Thursday and especially by Friday into the weekend.

Feeling good in the neighborhood! The mercury started off in the mid 60s back at sunrise. I think we'll peak around 87, low humidity degrees this afternoon under sun filled skies. Look for the same kinda day tomorrow before rain arrives on Friday. https://t.co/0Mmf1gE8If

Good news on the weather front folks...Not as hot this week. Highs this week will likely stay in the 80s for most areas with overnights dipping into the 60s each night. Lows along the coast will stay in the 70s. Rain chances will generally run 30% or less each afternoon. https://t.co/YSDyYed7MX

We'll be stuck in the oven the next 4 days folks. Highs each afternoon will reach the mid 90s inland to 90° on the coast. The heat index will run from 102°-107°. The hottest days will be Friday and Saturday. Both days will be First Alert Weather Days. Stay hydrated out there! https://t.co/VdIek3EYlO
