After another run of generally dry days, the latest drought update shows an expansion of the severe drought conditions into western Jones, northern Craven, western Beaufort, eastern Martin, southern Craven, and all of Washington County. Most of the remaining areas in Eastern NC remain in moderate drought status. The only improved conditions are the I-95 counties over the last few weeks.

Northeast winds will bring drier air and mostly sunny skies on Thursday with cool 50s early climbing to the upper 70s by late afternoon. Muggier south winds return on Friday bringing rain chances back to eastern NC. Scattered showers with some rumbles of thunder will develop Friday afternoon with muggier low 80s by early afternoon. More scattered showers will dot the radar on Saturday with the chance for a few thunderstorms around sunset into the evening hours.

Keep the umbrellas handy the next several days. Scattered showers with a few rumbles of thunder will continue on Wednesday with muggy mid 70s for highs. We’ll continue to see scattered showers and isolated storms through Saturday, as temperatures remain in the upper 70s to mid 80s, with muggy 60s at night. Widespread severe weather is not expected, but a few spots could see non-severe wind gusts up to 40-50 mph. Most areas should see 1-2 inches of rain through Saturday night.

As we head into Earth Day on Tuesday, clouds will be on the increase with rain chances arriving by mid to late afternoon. Most of the day will be fine, but chances will pick up by quitting time into the evening hours. Scattered showers and storms will dot the radar from 4pm into the overnight hours. A few strong storms may develop with wind gusts over 50 mph. The risk for a strong storm will come primarily from late afternoon through midnight.

Monday will stay plenty warm and quiet with high pressure sitting off the coast. Mostly sunny skies will drive the early mid 60s into the low to mid 80s Monday afternoon under partly cloudy skies with a south breeze at 10-20 mph. As we head into Earth Day on Tuesday, clouds will remain as showers arrive late. Most of the day will be fine, but pack the rain gear for school and work. Showers are likely overnight and into Wednesday. We could see a rumble of thunder as warm air is here to stay.

Feeling good in the neighborhood! The mercury started off in the mid 60s back at sunrise. I think we'll peak around 87, low humidity degrees this afternoon under sun filled skies. Look for the same kinda day tomorrow before rain arrives on Friday. https://t.co/0Mmf1gE8If

Good news on the weather front folks...Not as hot this week. Highs this week will likely stay in the 80s for most areas with overnights dipping into the 60s each night. Lows along the coast will stay in the 70s. Rain chances will generally run 30% or less each afternoon. https://t.co/YSDyYed7MX

We'll be stuck in the oven the next 4 days folks. Highs each afternoon will reach the mid 90s inland to 90° on the coast. The heat index will run from 102°-107°. The hottest days will be Friday and Saturday. Both days will be First Alert Weather Days. Stay hydrated out there! https://t.co/VdIek3EYlO
