We’ve declared a First Alert Weather Day through midweek as a dangerous and prolonged heat wave intensifies across Eastern North Carolina. Extreme temperatures and stifling humidity will bring heat index values well above 105°, with some spots approaching or even exceeding 110° Monday through Wednesday. A Heat Advisory is in effect beginning 10 AM Monday through 10 AM Tuesday for much of the region.

This week is no joke, Eastern North Carolina, our heatwave is officially underway. We’re watching a strong ridge of high pressure build in from the west, locking in a brutal stretch of sweltering sunshine and relentless humidity. Monday brings the first punch: highs near 95–99°, heat indices as high as 110°, and it only gets hotter from there. And let’s talk about the nights—lows won’t fall below the upper 70s to low 80s, which offers little chance for our bodies or our buildings to cool down.

Eastern North Carolina is stepping straight into the heat of summer literally. An intense ridge of high pressure is building over the Mid-Atlantic and will take over our skies through next week. That means a long stretch of scorching heat, sticky humidity, and limited rain relief. Sunday will offer a sample of what’s to come: highs in the low to mid 90s inland, upper 80s at the coast, and heat index values around 95-100°.

Eastern North Carolina starts to dry out after days of steady rain—but don’t let your guard down just yet. Today brings a classic summertime setup: a stalled front is lifting north, and our atmosphere is primed for scattered afternoon storms, especially along the sea breeze. If you’re heading outside late in the day, keep an eye on the sky. A few storms may turn strong with gusty winds and downpours. Meanwhile, the heat is turning up.

Another round of showers and storms are stat redevelop Monday afternoon into the overnight hours. A First Alert Weather Day continues into night for the returning flood risk. With the threat of more heavy rainfall Monday afternoon/evening, a Flood Watch is active through 2am tonight (give or take) for all counties in eastern NC. The risk of severe storms will be low, but a few storms may produce damaging wind gusts between 40–60 mph.
