Kennywood, which was sold this year, operates a Potato Patch and holds a copyright on the name. Waldameer renamed its stand The Tasty Tater. Change remains a constant at Waldameer Park & Water World in Erie, which opened for business in 1896. One of the changes coming to the park's concessions in 2025 involves fries at the Potato Patch stand, which will be offered as always this year. But the Potato Patch sign won't be on display.

Businesses within the CRIZ must report their 2024 tax data, but an accounting firm has been hired to assist them. Potential CRIZ funding recipients include bayfront development, the Erie Zoo, and the East Side Renaissance, with a small business program also planned. Brian Polito, executive director of Erie's City Revitalization & Improvement Zone or CRIZ, says that designation will provide millions of dollars for economic development in Erie.

The park has several new additions for the upcoming season, including a new ride called Time Twister, enlarged restrooms, and additional drink stations. Admission and food prices will increase slightly this year due to rising costs, particularly electricity. It could be some time — maybe a few years — before the probate of Waldameer Park & Water World owner Paul Nelson's estate is complete.

Big Lots stores in Erie and Meadville, previously closed due to bankruptcy, are reopening under new ownership. A familiar name in discount retailing is making a comeback in both Erie and Meadville. Signs outside of Big Lots stores at 2215 W. 12th St. in Erie and at 820 Water Street in the Downtown Mall in Meadville, announce: "The Comeback Starts Soon."Big Lots, which filed for bankruptcy protection in September, closed more of its more than 800 stores in recent months.

Dominick's Diner in Erie, PA, is closing after 68 years. The Ferraros are not disclosing the buyers or their plans for the property. Tina Ferraro, co-owner for the last eight years of Dominick's Diner at 123 E. 12th St., didn't want to leave anyone to crave one more meatball omelet. Bracing for a rush, she made 30 pounds of meatballs and five gallons of homemade sauce. And then she made more when that sauce ran low.
